Hawk Guys

If you are a father or father figure of a Prairie Trail Student, you are a Hawk Guy!

This program aims to incorporate positive male role models into the academic lives of Prairie Trail Students and is based on the nationally recognized Watch D.O.G.S program. We hope to mirror their efforts in our own community and school.

Male role models have something unique to share and the very act of showing up supports educational efforts by students. According to research by the U.S. Department of Education, students with involved dads also have higher rates of academic success, fewer problems with truancy, suspensions, and expulsions, increased self-esteem and self-confidence, and better child-father relationships.

Here are three reasons why getting involved will greatly benefit students of Prairie Trail:

  1. Community Engagement : The Hawk Guys provides an opportunity for fathers/father figures to actively engage with the school community. By participating, you can strengthen the bond between your family and the school, creating a supportive environment for your child's education. Research consistently shows that children thrive when their parents are involved in their school life.

  2. Role Modeling: Children look up to their father/father figure as a role model, and by participating, you can set a positive example of involvement, dedication, and commitment. When fathers/father figures actively participate in their child's school activities, it reinforces the importance of education and sends a powerful message about the value of engagement in their lives.

  3. Networking and Support: The Hawk Guys provides a platform for fathers/father figures to connect, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships with other parents/guardians. This network can be a valuable resource for both you and your student, as you can exchange insights, advice, and support, helping to navigate the challenges and joys of parenthood together.

The Hawk Guys will be, tentatively, phased in over the next three years. Being the initial year of the program, we are inviting fathers/father figures to sign up for recess duty during Friday lunch recesses, as weather permits. Phase 2 &  3 will involve expanding the program by offering more volunteer opportunities and events for fathers/father figured and Prairie Trail students.

Your involvement and support will undoubtedly shape the educational experiences and contribute to the personal growth of Prairie Trail Students. We thank you in advance for your time and greatly appreciate your support, big or small.

The Hawk Guys point of contact will be Travis James. He can be reached at hawkguys@prairietrailpto.org with any questions or comments.
